Local 120 London is proud to introduce its groundbreaking initiative, the Workplace Skills Development Program, as part of the SDF program. Designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in the construction industry, this program aims to provide comprehensive training in electrical theory and hands-on experience to position participants as top candidates in the job market.

With an overwhelming response, we received a total of 400 applicants for the program. Currently, we have successfully trained up to 180 individuals, empowering them with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in the competitive construction industry.

At the heart of the program lies the goal of reducing barriers for job seekers and facilitating their entry into the industry. Through strategic partnerships and targeted training, we aspire to hire several candidates from the program, giving them a head start in their careers with IBEW Local 120.

The training curriculum covers a wide range of essential skills, including working at heights, operating mobile elevated work platforms, WHMIS, electrical safety and hazard awareness, forklift operation, VR headset training, CPR/first aid, and more. By mastering these skills, participants will not only enhance their employability but also contribute to safer work environments across the industry.

The Workplace Skills Development Program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario. The program is inclusive and welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds, including youth, women, and other underrepresented groups. By providing equal opportunities for all, we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable workforce in the construction sector.

As we continue to invest in the development of our workforce, we are excited to witness the transformative impact of the Workplace Skills Development Program on individuals’ lives and the broader community. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for the construction industry, one skilled worker at a time.
